National Rail screen designs
A visual concept for Northern Rail aiming for engagement, accessibility and brand aligned through interactive screen design and milestone based progression.
The project was developed collaboratively with stakeholders, SMEs and a script writer. While the written content and messaging were shaped collectively, the overall learner flow, visual identity, interaction style and creative direction were driven by me.

The focus was on the creation of exploratory learning screen concepts. The aim was to imagine how mandatory or value based learning could be presented through a more visual, learner focused experience while remaining aligned to the Northern Rail brand.
The concept explored how narrative, interactive and strong visual structure could work together to create something memorable and engaging, whilst adhering to traditional
e-learning methodology.

Learning approach
The concept was designed around topic based progression and short interactive learning moments to help break content into manageable sections.
Guided pathways, scenario led learning, progress tracking and lightweight interactions were explored to support learner engagement without overwhelming the experience. The focus was on balancing creativity with clarity, ensuring interactions felt purposeful whilst easy to navigate.
The structure also considered how learners move through content visually, using pacing, hierarchy and variation to maintain attention across the experience.

Brand & visual direction
A large focus of the project was ensuring the learning concepts felt recognisably connected to the Northern Rail brand while still introducing a more modern and engaging visual style.
Bold colour blocking, illustrated characters, layered layouts and branded UI components were used to create a dynamic experience throughout the screens. The intention was to move away from static corporate learning and towards something with personality and visual energy, while remaining professional and accessible.
The final concept demonstrated how strong visual identity and learner experience thinking can work together to elevate digital learning design.
