Risk Response Unit

A scenario based digital learning experience designed to help employees recognise, report and respond to reputational risk. Built in Articulate Storyline with a strong visual identity, branching interactions and a narrative led structure designed to feel more engaging than traditional compliance learning.

I worked closely with stakeholders and subject matter experts throughout the project to shape the learning objectives and ensure the content reflected real organisational processes and expectations. While the subject matter was collaborative, the overall concept, structure, design language and narrative direction came from my own ideation and proposal work.

Feedback from learners was highly positive, with one learner describing it as “the best learning I have done in 15 years.” The project demonstrated how strong narrative thinking, visual design and learner focused interaction can transform mandatory learning into something people actively connect with.

The challenge

Regulatory learning can often feel abstract, policy heavy and difficult for learners to connect to day to day decision making. The challenge was creating something that felt relevant and memorable without losing the seriousness of the topic.

The learning also needed to balance clarity with engagement, avoiding overly corporate language and static content while still supporting business requirements and learner understanding.

Approach

Rather than presenting information passively, the module was designed around a fictional “Risk Response Unit” concept. This created a recognisable identity and gave the learning a more cohesive narrative structure from start to finish.

I focused heavily on flow and learner experience throughout the build, shaping how content unfolded, where interactions appeared and how learners progressed through the experience. The result was something that felt structured and considered without becoming rigid or overly formal.

Outcome

The final module delivered an immersive approach to compliance learning, combining strong visual design with practical interactions. It demonstrated how learning content can remain clear and business focused while still feeling creative, engaging and thoughtfully designed.

The challenge was to move beyond traditional learning and create something that felt realistic and engaging without overwhelming the learner. The Risk Response Unit needed to feel believable, with scenarios that held attention while still delivering clear learning outcomes.

It also needed to work as part of a scalable concept, requiring a consistent design approach that could carry across future modules.
