Harlaxton website refresh

A website refresh concept for Harlaxton focused on branding, UX and UI to support both student recruitment and visitor journeys while respecting the heritage and character of the estate.

The project explored how a historic institution could modernise its digital presence while still retaining a strong sense of place and identity.

This project explored how to present Harlaxton Manor as a study destination, an event space and public-facing estate. Set within a historic manor and gardens, the site needed to balance academic credibility with a sense of place and experience.

Harlaxton serves multiple audiences, from prospective students to visitors booking tickets, which creates competing user needs. The challenge was to bring these journeys together without making the site feel fragmented or overly complex.

There was also a need to respect the heritage and visual identity of the estate while modernising the experience, ensuring it felt current without losing its sense of place.

The challenge

Harlaxton serves multiple audiences, from prospective students to visitors and event bookings, all with very different needs and expectations.

The challenge was creating a digital experience that felt more contemporary and accessible without losing the character and heritage associated with the estate.

Approach

I developed a structured design system and visual direction that balanced modern layouts with more classic editorial influences. Typography, colour and spacing were carefully considered to create something that felt elegant and distinctive without becoming overly decorative.

The UX approach focused on improving clarity and navigation while creating a stronger visual hierarchy across pages and content types. Concepts explored how academic information, visitor content and promotional journeys could sit more cohesively within the same experience.

A large part of the project centred around presentation and storytelling through design, creating a concept that communicated both the practical improvements and the wider vision behind the refresh.

Outcome

The final concept presented a more refined and user focused digital direction for Harlaxton, combining heritage inspired visuals with a clearer, more modern experience across the site.
