Gritstone site design and build

A full website design and build for Gritstone, bringing together branding, UX/UI and development to create a professional, accessible and modern digital presence.

This project explored how to present Harlaxton Manor as a study destination, an event space and public-facing estate. Set within a historic manor and gardens, the site needed to balance academic credibility with a sense of place and experience.

Harlaxton serves multiple audiences, from prospective students to visitors booking tickets, which creates competing user needs. The challenge was to bring these journeys together without making the site feel fragmented or overly complex.

There was also a need to respect the heritage and visual identity of the estate while modernising the experience, ensuring it felt current without losing its sense of place.

The challenge

The challenge was creating a website that felt credible and trustworthy while avoiding the generic appearance often associated with financial and accounting services.

The site needed to clearly communicate service offerings, support lead generation and create an up to date experience for prospective clients.

Approach

The UX process focused on simplifying navigation, improving content hierarchy and ensuring users could quickly understand the services available and how to get in touch. Wireframes and page structures were used to map content and create clear user journeys before moving into visual design.

Once the designs were established, I developed the website in Webflow, translating the concepts into a fully responsive build. My understanding of both design and development allowed me to balance visual quality with technical implementation, ensuring the finished experience remained consistent across devices.

Brand & visual direction

The visual direction aimed to create a modern and professional identity while retaining a sense of warmth and approachability.

A refined colour palette, strong typography and considered use of imagery helped establish trust and credibility throughout the experience. The design system was intentionally flexible, allowing the brand to feel consistent across landing pages, service content and future growth of the website.

The overall aesthetic balances professionalism with personality, helping the business stand apart from more traditional competitors within the sector.

Outcome

The final website delivered a stronger and more cohesive digital presence that better reflected the business, its services and its ambitions.

The project demonstrated my ability to combine branding, UX/UI design and development within a single workflow, creating a solution that was not only visually considered but also practical, scalable and built around the needs of both the client and their users.
